Fun with Food: Fall In Love With Tofu (Yes, Really!)

Presenter: Cheryl J. Sleade, Chef-in-Training at the Cooking and Hospitality School of Chicago
Thursday, September 10, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

We hear over and over how healthy tofu is for us as a source of phytoestrogens and meatless protein. Having difficulty knowing how to cook with tofu in ways that are both easy and delicious? It really is possible! Cheryl will show you delightful ways to prepare dishes with tofu that you can add to your own menus at home. Information on the nutritional properties of soybean-based foods will be provided.

Wellness Through Deep Hypnosis: "Standing Up For What You Need"

Presenter: Rev. Dr. C. Scot Giles
Saturday, September 12, 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

This workshop, limited to 15 participants, will provide a group hypnotic experience based on the work of Dr. Bernie Siegel. Dr. Giles will include the hypnotic methods he has developed over his years of work with cancer patients.

Exercise Therapy Consultations

Presenter: Howard Stidwill, Ph.D.
Individual 45-minute appointments scheduled on:
Mondays, September 14 and 21, 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Individual consultations will be offered to those who are interested in rehabilitation programs that are currently being developed at Wellness House. The consultation will be specific to your type and stage of cancer, as well as your treatment. Significant others are welcome and encouraged to attend the consultation as well. Howard has a doctorate in physical education and has specialized in exercise for recovering cancer patients. To this end he has written a book and several articles on this topic, as well as given numerous presentations. Howard can be flexible on appointment times, so please call him if you need an appointment other than above times.

An individual consultation is required prior to participation in the Exercise Therapy classes.

Fun with Food: Eat Your Vegetables!

Presenter: Cheryl J. Sleade, Chef-in-Training at the Cooking and Hospitality School of Chicago
Wednesday, September 16, 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Your mother told you this for years. Let's take her advice and discover recipes using a variety of vegetables that are not considered just side dishes anymore. Cheryl will explore a variety of vegetables and cooking methods using simple and flavorful recipes including Italian Vegetables made in parchment paper and Vegetable Pie.

Creating Wellness: A Family Affair

Facilitators: Scott Dziura, M.S. and Marilyn Perlman, Ph.D.
Thursday, September 17, 7:30 - 9:00 p.m.

Coming together as a family to share the impact of cancer has on each member can be a necessary and healing experience. Join other families as, together, we explore ways to communicate and better appreciate the perspective and experience of each family member during the life-changing experience of cancer. Limited to families of two or more persons and children who are 16 years or older.

Please join our Wellness House experts on these traditions to learn the foundations of these healing arts and how these practices strengthen the immune system, reduce stress, and enhance the body's natural capacity to fight disease.
